I want to have the guarantee in case some mishap, ie coffee spill on the keyboard, etc.

Also, 15 days are not enough as there are chances of indefinite schedules, ie months.  To wait until you return to 'base' is not worth it.  I think the computer are worldwide now not because it sounds cool but because it's a must, particularly notebook that it's rather difficult to fix by yourself.

I saw dell service in an office in Hong Kong quite decent but that's the company account though. I believe Dell only has office in Malaysia and I think they were managed from Malaysia too.  The IT support in that office said the service is always great.  Well, but that could be just because company account!

ผมว่า ถ้าเดินทางใน ASEAN Region ผมว่าคงไม่จำเป็นขนาดนั้น และถ้าไม่อยู่แต่ละที่เกิน 15 วัน ก็น่าจะนำกลับมาซ่อมในประเทศครับ และคงไม่เสียง่าย ๆ ครับ ผมขอเสริมการบริการหลังขายภายในประเทศหน่อยครับ เท่าที่ใช้บริการมานะครับ ที่บอกรับประกัน 1 ปี on site ยังไม่เคยใช้บริการครับ เพราะไม่เคยเสียครับ ถ้ามีปัญหาส่วนมากเป็นเรื่อง software เช่น ไวรัส หรือ พบพวก spy ware ครับ ซึ่งส่วนนี้ต้องบริการตัวเองครับ ถ้าเป็นลักษณะ home use ค่อนข้างมีปัญหาครับ ไม่เหมือนลักษณะบริษัทซึ่งมักจะซื้อกับบริษัทย่อยซึ่งต้องการลูกค้าประจำ ซึ่งส่วนมากจะมาบริการถึงที่ด้วยบริการของบริษัทเองครับ แต่ถ้า Home Use ส่วนใหญ่เจ้าของต้องนำไปซ่อมเองที่บริษัทแม่ครับจะเร็วกว่าส่งผ่านร้านค้าย่อย เช่น DATA IT หรือ IT City ครับ เช่น ของ Acer รับประกันซ่อมเสร็จภายใน 3 ชั่วโมง ถ้าไม่เสร็จมีเครื่องทดแทน(ไม่เคยใช้บริการครับ) และ HP (ศูนย์อยุ่ตึกอื้อ จือ เหลียง พระราม4) จากเคยใช้บริการไม่เคยเกิน 3 วันครับ เพราะฉะนั้นการซื้อในนามบริษัท กับซื้อส่วนตัวแตกต่างกันครับ ถ้าซื้อส่วนตัวสำหรับ Notebook ส่วนมากผมซื้อที่พันธ์ทิพย์หาร้านที่ไม่ต้องคิด VAT นะครับ เพราะประหยัดได้ 4-5 พันบาทครับ

ผมว่า notebook ที่ต้องเดินทางบ่อยคงต้องมีความทนทานสูงครับ ราคาที่สูงส่วนหนึ่งเป็นองค์ประกอบด้านความทนทาน ถ้ากะว่าจะไปหา support ในประเทศที่เดินทางไปคงต้องซื้อ brand ทีมี express service ในประเทศเหล่านั้นซึ่งผมไม่แน่ใจว่าแถบนี้จะมี ยกเว้นเป็นเครื่องที่ office ซื้อให้และมีสาขาในประเทศที่จะเดินทางไปทำงานครับ จริงที่จะเสียก็คงไม่ harddisk ก็ power adapter ละครับยอดฮิต ถ้าไม่ใช่ทำเครื่องหล่น

อย่างที่ผมบอกไปแล้วครับ ผมเป็นคน Support computer ในองค์กรของผมครับ สำหรับ Dell เป็นคอมพิวเตอร์ที่ดีมาก และเหมาะสมอย่างยิ่ง สำหรับคนที่อยู่ใน US ครับ โดยเฉพาะเมื่อเปรียบเทียบราคากับคุณสมบัติเมื่อเปรียบเทียบกับ Brand อื่น ๆ เนื่องจาก Dell จะไม่มีปัญหาเรื่อง Stock จึงสามารถทำราคาได้ต่ำกว่า Brand อื่น คุณ Lapath ไม่สามารถนำการบริการหลังขายใน US มาเปรียบเทียบกับเมื่องไทยได้ครับ เช่น ในไทยผู้ขายจะบอกกับคุณว่า ห้ามส่งใบรับประกันก่อน 7 วัน เพราะใน 7 วัน ถ้ามีปัญหาจะเปลี่ยนเครื่องใหม่ให้ แต่ถ้าเขียนจะซ่อมจนกว่าจะหายอย่างเดียวครับ Dell เหมาะสำหรับใช้ในหน่วยงานที่มี Computer Support ครับ เพราะอย่างที่ทราบจะทำอะไรจะต้องโทรไปมาเลเซียอย่างเดียว อะหลั่ยก็ต้องสั่งจากมาเลเซีย เจ้าหน้าที่ Support เท่าที่พบหลังจากโทรไป 5 ครั้ง ไม่ใช่คนไทยครับ อาจเป็นสิงคโปร์ หรือมาเลเซียที่พูดไทยได้ ผมแนะนำ Toshiba, IBM หรือ ACER ดีกว่าครับ แต่ IBM ผมมีความเห็นเหมือนคุณครับ โดยเฉพาะมีข่าวว่า พยายามขายหุ้นให้ Lenovo ของจีน ทำให้ความมั่นใจลดลงมากครับ ผมว่าถ้าต้องการบริการที่ดีในไทย น่าจะหา Brand ที่มีบริการ Local ที่ไทยดีกว่าครับ

For notebooks, I to make sure I have peace of mind if I need a service somewhere outside the country krub. 

In this sense, I kinda rule out quite a few opportunities Acer or something that as I am not sure they could provide a decent international warranty and support vs. major brands.  Or am I missing something here krub?

For software problem, I think they will not send someone to fix it but will try and find solution over the phone. �For my 2-3 problems, I had to reformatted my hard disk and still not solved. �I had to install other version of window XP (unit originally come with ICT version of window XP).

I think that laptop price in Thailand is very competitive, especially those sold without MS XP. �Your can find some price indication from www.thai2hand.com, usually some dealer will post new laptop price.

I never really worked on Dell computer for a long period of time.  One of my colleague personally owns the very old Dell notebook.  After the fourth year, everything seemed to fall off into pieces.  In a way, it's about time for you to get a new computer but for those who want to 'hang' on to your computer for a long period of time, I don't think Dell is a way to go krub.

Actually, I IBM a lot as I used in once and believe that its keyboard is the best and I can really work on it.

However, I have problem with its design on the X series in that you need to buy some kind of docking station in order to attach the drive to the computer.  If you travel, then this will be a problem if you want to have a DVD drive, according to my understanding.

The other problem with IBM is price krub.   

Minor issues are the look (very very very plain) and the rubber pointing device which is good at the beginning but likely to give me a sore index finger after a certain period of time, particularly when the felt at that pointing device peels off...

ถ้ามีตังพอ .. Dell น่าใช้มากครับ .. น้องๆ ที่ใช้ Dell มักจะมาเล่นให้ฟังถึงความประทับใจในบริการเสมอ ..

Really good point krub as I thought you just tell Dell that something is wrong on your computer and they sent someone to see your computer later.

I am currently using Dell D500 notebook, purchase locally during the ICT promotion.  I had 2-3 software problem initially and had to contact their aftersale service in Malaysia.  From my experience, their after sale is very good but you have to try and describe your problems over the phone.  Since I am not a computer expert, I had some problem describing to them the exact problem.  I used to own a Fujitsu notebook, they had a service center where you could bring your notebook and solve the problem on a personal basis and step by step.

In short, if your are not a software expert, then it is better to buy from manufacture that has local service center such as Fujitsu, Compaq or Acer where they can help you solve problem personally.  Since these brand are sold through their dealer, you can also get help from their dealer. IMHO

เรื่อง Warranty ... ผมว่า mail ไปถาม Dell หรือ โทรไปถาม Dell เลยน่าจะได้คำตอบที่น่าจะถูกต้องกว่านะครับบบ (แนะนำให้เป็น mail เพราะจะได้มีหลักฐานของคำตอบนั้นๆ)

สินค้า WWW (World Wide Warranty) มักจะเอาแน่ไม่ได้อ่ะคับบบ

How long ago was this incident krub?

I check the website and it said there is a so-called 3 year international warranties that cover 90 countries including Thailand.  Of course, not all the model is under coverage in Thailand but the 700m was not mentioned which should imply they are 'covered'.  Also, Dell Thailand do not carry this 700m krub

I'm very new to this aftersales service as I was lucky my computer do not fail in a big way.  When people said aftersales service is good and Dell is not as you have to call to Malaysia, what's the point krub?  For other brands, you just bring it in and they fix it for you right away?  I think for Dell, it said that it has a so-called 'on site' within a certain period of time.  Does this mean they come to you and it's not convenient?

sorry for funny and silly question but I would appreciate comments krub.

พอถามถึงเรื่องการซ่อมทางศูนย์บอกว่าไม่มีอะไหล่ครับ เพราะว่าจะมีการสต๊อกเฉพาะรุ่นที่ขายที่เมืองไทย และส่วนใหญ่จะไม่ซ่อมจะเปลี่ยนใหม่ให้เลยครับ ประมาณว่าดูแล้วจะเน้นขายทางออฟฟิสมากกว่าครับ ซึ่งถ้าจะซ่อมต้องส่งกลับไปซ่อมที่อเมริกาครับ

อย่างไรก็ดี พนักงานที่ผมโทรไปถามก็ให้บริการที่ดีครับ คือพยายามหาทางช่วยเหลือเท่าที่สามารถช่วยได้ครับ ดูแล้วคุณภาพบริการน่าจะดีครับผม

It may look good krub but the weight is way too much for 'portable' computer.  It weighs in at close to 7lbs (3kg), doubling 700m weight of approx 4lbs (1.8kg).  Take into account some transformer and, maybe, external mouse, etc, and I'm sure you're carrying closer to 10lbs than you thought.

To me, 6000 is great for gamer or couch potato who rarely move, ie walking up and down vehicle, carrying it to business meeting.

ที่ทำงานผมใช้ Dell เป็นร้อยเครื่อง เครื่องทนจริงๆและบริการดีมาก เพือนผมเอาเครื่อง Dell กลับมาจาก US หลายเครื่องใช้งานได้ดีไม่มีปัญหา ถ้ามีก็ถือว่าดวงไม่ดีละครับ  ได้ไปลองเครื่องที่ CompUSA บ้างไหมครับจะได้รู้ว่าเครื่องไหนเป็นอย่างไร เครื่อง wide-screen มีหลายยี่ห้อครับ keyboard ใหญ่ทุกอัน พี่ผมมี Sony จอมันแพลบชัดแจ๋วดูหนังเด็ดมาก แต่ผมชอบเครื่องเบาๆ ดูหนังไว้ดูที่บ้านครับ   

ที่นี้มี Notebook ให้เลือกเยอะมาก ถ้าหนักหน่อยก็ 25,000 - 40,000 แบบเบาก็ 60,000 ขึ้น ราคาที่ต่างกันกับซื้อที่ US ประมาณ 5,000 - 8,000 บาทเท่านั้น ถ้า diff แค่นี้อาจไม่น่าซื้อที่นู่นครับ สำหรับบริการ inter'l กับ local ผมว่าเลือก local น่าจะพอ ขึ้นกับว่าอยู่ที่ไหนนานกว่ากัน
 
ที่น่าซื้อกลับมาคือเครื่องเสียงรถอย่าง a/d/s 346cs เหลือแค่ $399 (http://hereforgear.com) บน ebay ถูกกว่าอีกหรือ Tube Driver Blue 275 เครื่องใหม่ไปทำ road show มาเหลือแค่ $500 (ถาม sale http://www.butleraudio.com โดยตรงได้) ราคาที่นี่ต่างกันเป็นเท่าตัวครับ a/d/s ก็เลิกนำเข้าแล้วโดนลำโพงตลาดตี

ตอบคุณ Lapath ครับ Dell เป็นเครื่องที่ดีและราคา สมเหตุสมผล แต่การบริการในประเทศไทยไม่ค่อยดีครับ เวลามีปัญหาต้องโทรไปมาเลเซีย (โทรฟรีครับ) เพราะศูนย์ฯใหญ่ของ Dell แถบนี้อยู่มาเลเซีย เวลาจะ Upgrade ค่อนข้างยุ่งยาก ผมไม่ทราบราคาใน US นะครับ ถ้าเทียบคุณสมบัติเท่า ๆ กัน ราคานี้จะเรียงจากราคาสูงไปต่ำนะครับ คือ Sony, Toshiba, HP, Acer ส่วน IBM ไม่ค่อยนิยมใช้ในไทย แต่การบริการหลังขาย และ spare part ดีที่สุด ถ้าเป็นเครื่องน้ำหนักต่ำกว่า 2 kg ลองดู Toshiba Portige หรือ Acer Travelmate 383lci ราคาในไทยประมาณ 70000 บาทครับ (ควร Upgrade Memory มาจากร้านเลยนะครับ เพราะถ้า upgrade เองจะเสีย memory ตัวเก่า เพราะ Acer จะใส่ Memory มาสองแถวเต้มจากบริษัท เช่น 512 mb จะใส่ 256*2 mb มาจากบริษัท ครัย)

I plan to bring a Dell notebook back to Thailand.  I have a question on

1. How its aftersales service and, particularly for the stuff I brought back, ie international warranty, is?
2. Anybody could comment on notebook these days which one I should get.  My requirement is

2.1 Weight: less than 4 lbs (1.8kgs)
2.2 Good keyboard
2.3 Very good aftersales service both local and worldwide
2.4 Not too expensive ie Bt50,000-60,000

I plan to use it to work mostly with Microsoft office while playing movie, ie DVD, which is a second priority.  It does not have to be 16x9 aspect ratio.  4:3 is fine.

I try this Dell 700m before.  It has a 16:9 format but with on-board graphic card which I'm not sure how it performs on movies.  (Guess really bad?) It looks quite nice and got a decent review from both cnet.com and pcmag.com.  However, I have problem typing as my finger hits each other all the time I try to type.  The review is here, cnet.com

Here's how it looks
