I had seen Bravia in HongKong 2 weeks ago, and was very impressed by its picture quality though it was showing a demo dvd from Sony. From that demo dvd, White level and Black level were excellent, motion was still not so smooth as CRT but could compete well with Plasma. Resolution and color saturation were also excellent. Perhaps, that demo dvd was intended to show off its hidef-like quality. Unfortunately, i didn't have chance to check its quality on normal dvd.
I had also seen other brands (both LCD and Plasma) in several stores nearby but i think Bravia is the best, even better than most Plasma. However, it was no A/B test, so be careful to check, test and compare before you buy.
Overall, it was the first time that LCD is much better than i thought.
