 RS-1: Better On/Off contrast, horizontal lens shift, 2 HDMI inputs wider color gamut

BenQ: Better ANSI, Better lens, less chromatic abberation, quieter, brighter, can be dialed in better

I think both of these projectors will satisfy the majority of consumers out there. I thought the RS-1 was a bit oversaturated, I didn't care for the shading issues with the corners, I thought the lens distored color a bit too much and all 3 of the units I've used had convergence issues that could not be fully resolved with the setup menu. Contrast looked great though, and the Gennum processing was nice.

The BenQ is quieter, which is always nice, and has some REALLY good options for dialing it in. ANSI contrast is excellent and On/Off is not bad at all. Blacks still look really good, especially if you can really take advantage of th iris. The BenQ can offer a really bright image if you need it as well. The lens is a lot better than the JVC, obviously the single chip design makes convergence a moot point and chromatic abberation is almost a non-issue except for the extremes of the image. It was even better than the Marantz VP-11S1 I had in my room in this regard. It can also be focused extremelly tight, which is usually a drawback of a powered focus. But I managed to focus tight enough that I can see the dimple in the center of the pixel on the screen from the DMD. I do wish they made one in black though!

Personally, I prefer the BenQ, but again, I think the JVC would satisfy just about anyone out there except the really picky. Both are steals in my opinion.

 I had an HD1 for review, but we do not use it for our reference projector at this time. I was using the superb Marantz VP11S1 for sometime but I am now using the BenQ W10000, which is an excellent projector at a steal of a price in my opinion. It has its shortcomings like every other projector on the market, but for the price it is an excellent value.
