Last sunday I change my UBC (cable system) from analog to digital settop box and the result are as followed:-
1. Current expense for changing the settop box
� � �Installation promotion 1000 Baht (normal 2000 baht)
� � �Digital settop deposit 2000 Baht (normal 4000 baht)
� � �Additional monthly fee 155 Baht
� � �Total cost 3000 baht (minus 500 for the deposit of analog settop)
� � �Premium package free for 1 month
2. Settop feature
� � Same settop box as the satellite version
� � No delay when switch from channel to channel
3. Picture quality
� � Picture is cleaner but not as sharp as my analog system
� � Picture noise is reduce
4. Sound quality
� � Sound quality is better than the analog system
� � Sound level is constant for all channel (In my analog system the sound level change from channel to channel)
Sorry, I can not type in Thai.�
Hope the information help those that are considering switching to digital system.

UBC Digital มีดนตรีหลายแนวให้ฟังทั้งวัน ไม่ทราบว่าเสียงของ radio channel เป็นอย่างไรครับ กำลังจะตัดสินใจซื้อ FM Tuner ดีๆ หรือเปลี่ยนมา UBC Digital แทน
มีใครใช้ FM Tuner ดีๆบ้างไหมครับ รุ่นอะไร ซื้อได้ที่ไหน ขอความเห็นด้วย อ่าน review ว่า Rotel RT-1080 ดีมาก แต่ไม่ทรายว่ามีขายในไทยไหม ?

ยังไม่ได้เปลี่ยนครับ แต่ชอบที่เค้าโฆษณาว่า เวลาเปลี่ยนช่องที่เป็น stereo จะไม่มีเสียง noise ดังสนั่นเหมือนเดิม

ผมก้อยังไม่ได้เปลี่ยนจากระบบ อะนาล๊อก มาเป็น ดิจิตอล เช่นกันคร๊าบบบ!!!!
ตอบคุณ Redbook.....เครื่องรับวิทยุ ที่ผมใช้ยี่ห้อ มารานซ์ มีอยู่รุ่นเดียว แต่ราคาจำหน่ายค่อนข้างสูง

FM tuner เอามาฟังวิทยุธรรมดาใช่ไหมครับ (ถ้าไม่ใช่ ก็เป็นอันว่าความเห็นของผมตกไปนะครับ)
ตอนนี้หายากนะครับ ถ้าราคาต่ำกว่าหมื่น ก็มักไม่มีรีโมท ซึ่งผมคิดว่าจำเป็นสำหรับการฟังวิทยุ ถ้ามีรีโมท ก็มักจะหมื่นกว่าขึ้นไป หรือไม่ก็ต้องเป็นของมือสอง
ซื้อ Reciever ดีกว่ามั้ยครับ แ้ล้วต่อจาก tape out มาเข้้าแอมป์ก็ได้ ต่อเสาอากาศภายนอกอีกสักแผง ก็ยอดเยี่ยมแล้ว

I think Khun Redbook is really serious about investing in a decent tuner.
This Rotel is around GBP400 (Bt30,000) so I guess a regular tuner or the one that comes with receiver won't make the cut then. If this is the case, then I think it's rather dubious to make comparison between this Rotel and signal from UBC.

แต่เคยมีโอกาสลอง Magnum Dynalab เสียงดีสมราคาจริงๆ ... ราคาสูงมักม๊ากกกกก
ในไทยที่เห็นรุ่นใหญ่ๆ ที่มีคนนิยมกันอีกก็คงเป็น Accuphase อ่ะัคับ ... แต่ราคาก็คงสูสีกันกับ Magnum Dynalab ... เคยไปร่วมตอนเค้าเอาสองตัวนี้กัดกัน กินกันไม่ลงแฮะ :D
ราคาไม่เกิน 10,000 ... NAD เคยใช้รุ่น C440 ใช้งานได้ดีครับ แต่จะมีประโยชน์สูงสุดถ้าใช้ร่วมกับเครื่องเสียงของ NAD เพราะ Remote ตัวเองไม่มีต้องอาศัย NAD Link
Denon 280R ก็ดีนะครับ ... เห็นคนปล่อยมือ 2 มาเรื่อยๆ ... ตัวนี้มี Remote ให้ด้วย แต่ระยะทางของ Remote สั้นไปหน่อย ระยะทางสู้ NAD ไม่ได้แต่ดีตรงที่ใช้ Remote ของตัวเอง ... การรับคลื่นทำได้ดีกว่า NAD แต่ NAD ได้ความอิ่มและน่าฟังมากกว่าเล็กน้อยคับ (ไม่เคยลองรุ่นใหม่ C442 นะครับ) ::)
ตอนนี้ไม่ได้ใช้ Tuner แล้ว ... ใช้เพียงตัวที่ Built-In อยู่ใน Harman AVR3550 เท่านั้น
UBC .. ผมว่าเสียงของ Tuner ถือว่าดีนะครับ ... ชัดเจนดีมากๆ ... แต่ผมไม่ค่อยได้ใช้ ... ไว้จะลองใช้ดูดีก่า :-[

If you limit the price to Bt10,000, Tivoli Model 2 also fits the price range. A class D Stereophile, it's not quite a standalone tuner but it was reviewed by more than one reviewer and both like it.
A salient weakness is that it does not have any remote control but its tuner is relatively well designed.

UBC settop box is not a tuner. The station are preset/fixed, you can not change the preset. There are 30 preset stations. Only 10 stations are FM stations (94.5, 100 etc) and the rest (20 stations) are UBC own music station.

Honestly, after a few hours, I find the picture quality "drop" for the notorious AXN channel. Analog seems to give better pic with the "ghost" effect. For Digital, it turns to be "blocks"...which is equivalent to a poor VCD quality...I believe smaller TV would not have a problem. My dad's Sony 34" is even better!
As for sport channels, the pic is also worse...
For other news, movies, I find it better though.
But the main reason I go for it is the sound. Sound is much much better, no "scream" when changing channel, and I enjoy the new digital radio very much. The remotes is ligher. And I like the fact that you can confirm the next show (as you know that the handbook is never accurate!)

I found that the overall signal, including AXN and ESPN, improved significantly for digital signal in other countries in the region. As such, I think this is the problem of cable TV provider in Thailand, ie UBC, that CAN be improved if they want to do it. :(

What I find about projection TV is that it is extremely sensitive to signal and adjustment. I replaced video splitter from what the cable company provided to the one I bought from outside at Circuit City in the US (I used AR which is equivalent to Ultralink or Monster) and the picture improved significantly, particularly the picture noise. :)
Also, try to use the most direct signal path to your projection at the expense of 34 inch as I believe direct view suffered relatively less vs. projection TV. If possible, no line cut/splitter between your projection TV and source. Use high quality TV cable for projection TV.
I mean, for projection TV, a little adjustment means a "lot" and things you previously thought that they are not important become significant and very important for larger and projection type screen TV.

That's the benefit of digital TV that you get a more interactive or up to date things. Wait until broadband TV becomes reality in Thailand and you even get much more fun.
It's my understanding that Hong Kong will probably be the first country in this region that broadcasts HDTV via broadband TV, as early as end 2006/early 2007. Currently, broadband TV in Hong Kong is at standard definition with little interactive, ie you can subscribe/buy pay per view that you like, the same as you paid it in the hotel.
By that time, the speed of broadband internet should reach up to 25Mbps vs an average max speed of 6Mbps at the moment. I'm talking about the speed that you and me could afford to pay, not something like I saw in Thailand, ie 2Mbps at Bt10,000+???.
I was told that contect providers are ready to offer such high resolution signal but I don't know who the content provider is... Anyway, I was told that the HDTV will be sent out in MPEG-4 format...??? I have little knowledge about this but I'm not sure that MPEG-4 format has anything to do with HDTV in the US??? So, this could be another 'faked' HDTV, a la confusing term of progressive scan we had in the past.

UBC Music เท่าที่ลองก็ออกมาชัดเจนดีครับ ... เรียกว่าเสียงฟังแล้วใช้ได้เลย ไม่หงุดหงิดครับผม ::)

UBC radio station เพลงชัดเจน แต่เห็นหลายคนบอกว่าภาพม่ายชัดเท่า analog ยกเว้นช่องดูหนัง ชัดแบบ VCD งั้นก็ม่ายดีสิ ? ตัวผมเน้นฟังเพลงกับดูหนัง แต่ผู้อาวุโสเน้นดูละคร คุณกอล์ฟว่าไงครับ

บ้านผมไม่มีระบบ Analog ให้ลองครับ
ใช้แบบดาวเทียม .. ไม่เคยใช้แบบ Analog เพราะที่บ้านสาย Cable มาไม่ถึง (บ้านนอกมะคับ อุๆๆๆ)
ภาพเท่าที่ดูก็ ok ครับ .. ผมรับได้ โดยปรกติผมเน้นดูบอลอย่างเดียวสำหรับ UBC คร้าบบบบบบบบ ;D

ติด UBC Digital แบบสายได้เดือนกว่าแล้วครับ ฟังเพลงต่อกับชุดที่บ้านใช้ได้ แต่มีเสียง Hiss ยิ่งตอนหลังมีฝนตกเสียงดังมากขึ้นเยอะ ไฟฟ้าที่มากับสายเคเบิลแรงมากดูดเป็นว่าเล่น เครื่องเสียงก็มีกราวด์อย่างดีแล้ว มีใครเป็นบ้าง มีวิธีแก้ไหมครับ
