1. New electronic will need some break-in. I would say 20 hours minimum but you could search more specific info on this webboard.
2. Disengage all those intelligence picture function that Sony has before you adjust the picture.
3. Highly suggest you use calibration disc

AVIA or Digital Video Essential (DVE)
4. If you don't want to pay at all, at least reduce the sharpness to almost or at zero. It will look soft at the beginning but once you're used to it, you see more detail of the picture vs. ringing at the very high level of sharpness. If you want to use factory preset, set it to the softest setting. Though not perfect, it's much better than those dynamic, standard, etc that makes the TV look good on showroom with lots of fluorescent light, unless your viewing area looks exactly

the showroom!
5. Make sure no direct light shine to your TV. If your TV is facing the window, you may need to put curtain there. Otherwise, it will be difficult to get good picture no matter how much you try/pay someone to adjust for you.
