As far as I remember EX series from Sony "CANNOT" take any progressive scan signal. I recall Khun Oan used to have this EX series before but not confirm about this krub.
While this is the case, it's difficult to find DVD player without progressive scan these days so just check on the reliability of the brand and aftersales service. I think Sony seemed to be the best with strong track record on its aftersales services but at a price. I'm not familiar with other brands so you should check the old post on aftersales service issues.
Last time I check, Philips tends to have more problem with their aftersales services and the reliability of its merchandise but it does not mean it's all bad. Just higher chances than others that things can go wrong. Pls check this webboard again for confirmation.
