The next generation KURO flat panel televisions will be coming this summer as planned with no change in Pioneer production. The only difference starting in 2009 will be that Pioneer will outsource mass production of the plasma modules before they go to finishing and assembly plants to become Pioneer televisions.

The 2nd gen will come from Pioneer while the 3 rd gen, the one that "wowed" videophile at CES last year could be in 2009 which is the one that will go to Panny, IMHO.  I think this is the right way as Pioneer wants to maintain that even they outsource its panel, it's still technology leader, Sony that use Samsung's panel on its LCD line.

However, even the 1st gen Kuro, the picture is way way above Panny, let alone all those LCD.  It's not sharp but very subtle which makes it look more three dimensional to my eye.  But the price... $$$...

Can't imagine how much the 2nd and 3rd gen Kuro will cost.  Hopefully, it will follow the PC market which offers better products at less expensive price point as time passes.

Pioneer gets really official with $9,000 Elite KURO projector


Sure, those flashy new KURO plasmas or that new array of receivers may have taken you by surprise, but don't pretend you didn't know this one was coming. Known simply as the PRO-FPJ1, this 1080p beamer incorporates LCoS technology, dual HDMI 1.3 ports, wide lens shift capacity, a trio of viewing modes (standard, dynamic and movie) and a real semblance to JVC's DLA-HD100. According to the firm, it's designed for "high-end cinematic installations and supports advanced calibration," and of course, you can't escape a KURO release without a little bragging about black levels. We're still waiting on a finalized specifications list, but 'til then, you can chew on that $9,000 price tag and wait for these to hit dealers next month.
