I think it's everywhere krub, not just country specific.
The area that Thai loves to go shopping in Hong Kong is probably the WORST place to shop, ie Nathan Road. It's a tourist trap with lots of shop designed to rip off tourist krub. And Thai people love to go there!!! Once they came back, they incriminately said that Hong Kong are bad!!! To me, it sounds
you go to shop at Ma Boon Krong in Bangkok and return to other province in Thailand and said Bangkok is BAD for treating shopper. Is it fair to Bangkok? Is it fair for Hong Kong?
In Singapore, I "HATE" the shop at the first floor at The Adelphi, a building that sell high end audio. Worst manner than whatever lots said they met in Hong Kong and much worse than most shop in Thailand. They look down on me whether I have money to buy thing, saying that they do not do the business the way people did in Thailand, this is Singapore, etc. Totally discrimanating. I was lucky that I went to the third floor at the time and found out that the authorized agent for the speaker was there. Once the agent learned about this, they called the 1st floor shop right away and 'blah' them with an earful. He ended up offer me special discount plus mentioning to me that the 1st floor guy is famous for this BAD behavior but the shop location is good so he had to depend on the guy.
So, this thing is EVERYWHERE. If you want to buy expensive stuff, do HOMEWORK. Search these webpage as there's lots of info on where to buy on this webboard and thaiavclub.org. Without this knowledge before you go, it's unfair a regular reader of this web to complain about the place, particularly in a stereotypical way. It helps to let people know where the place is but not help, to me, just to say buying stuff in that country is not good.!!!
