Titan - Design and Build
Born from the legacy of Musical Fidelity's kW, the Titan uses the latest engineering expertise to top the legendary performance of that original super amp. Its advanced technology and design make the Titan an unbeatable power amplifier that will last a lifetime.
The Titan is a fully balanced design, from beginning to end. We've already covered its monumental 1KW power delivery in the product overview; here we can delve into more detail about the Titan's ultra-low distortion and signal-to-noise ratio.
Not only are distortion rates stunningly low less than 0.01% at 10Hz to 50kHz but unlike other amps, those figures don't dramatically increase as frequencies rise. Even at 100Hz its distortion only peaks at around 1%: remarkably minimal compared to rivals. Such consistency guarantees an incredibly clean performance with any kind of music, source or speaker.
It may seem strange to praise a power amplifier for being outstandingly quiet, but a low-noise layout is crucial to ensure you're only hearing the music, not feedback from any element of electronic design. The Titan uses such a design, with external power supplies ensuring zero interference with the amplifier's delicate signal circuitry. Measurements prove the Titan operates at near-silent levels, despite its muscular specification.
Its tiny signal-to-noise ratio also contributes to the Titan's immense dynamic range, plus its ability to deliver low-level detail with class-leading clarity and accuracy.
That 1kW of power enables the Titan to serve up music with incredible speed, precision and authority. There's no harshness or clinical feel to the sound: delivery is smooth, effortless and natural taking you as close to the experience of live music as hi-fi can hope to get.
The Titan is an amplifier that will suit every style of music and mood from gentle listening to party levels. As Michael Fremer noted in his Stereophile review: "The Titan seemed to have an unlimited ability to play loud, louder, and louder, without changing its sonic personalityand, with all that power, without ever sounding strained."
Connectivity options mean the Titan will fit into a range of suitable systems. It accepts both balanced and line-level inputs, plus a 3.5mm trigger input, while its twin sets of speaker outputs feature 30 micron gold plating.
Finally, it may offer monstrous levels of power, but the Titan is far more beauty than beast. The front panel, machined from a solid aluminium ingot, is exquisitely finished, as are the custom extrusions used on the top panel and heatsinks. There are no exposed screwheads on the front, top or sides of the Titan: these are boxes that can take pride of place in your listening room.

AMS100 - Design and Build
The AMS100 builds on the bridged design of the AMS50 and firmly ratchets performance up by another notch. It starts by using precisely the same circuitry and number of output transistors as our flagship TITAN amp, but then uses a power-supply configuration all of its own.
Pure Class A amplifiers draw considerable current, which exposes any deficiencies in power-supply design. Bridged amplifiers such as the TITAN and the AMS50 already benefit from a design that rejects power-supply noise. The AMS100 uses the same, bridged circuit layout, but instead of both halves being powered by a single mains transformer, it uses twin transformers plus two bifilar choke regulators for each channel. That means the bridged circuit is formed by two entirely separate, choke-regulated monoblocs.
The AMS100s unique dual-bifilar choke regulation system results in a power-supply noise-rejection ratio of 88:1; the equivalent of multiplying capacitance by more than 88 times. It has a huge effect on the amps performance, further aided by its excellent mains-noise filtration.
The result is a technically brilliant design but dont just take our word for it; the Hi-Fi News lab report proclaimed: Its supremely quiet (the A-wtd S/N ratio is 92dB re.0dBW) while distortion is vanishingly low at low power, just 0.0002%.
However, measurements only tell part of the story: you have to hear the AMS100 in action to truly appreciate its unique abilities. It has a clean, sweet and open sound, but never loses its tight, accurate grip on the music. Huge dynamics are delivered with ease, while low-end extension seems limitless.
As the Hi-Fi News review of the AMS 100 marvels: The lack of grain and the lack of compression were quite amazing. Sound stopped and started with remarkable freedom from any kind of color or perceived distortion
.It manages to combine absolute control with finesse.
In short: listen to the AMS100 and youll hear the sound of Class A amplification finally realising its full potential.
Despite its nominal 100 Watts per channel specification (or 200 Watts per channel into 4 ohms), the AMS100 will drive any speaker with ease. Connectivity options include both balanced and line-level inputs, plus two pairs of speaker terminals per channel, which make biwiring easy.
Its sheer size and specification mean we have to build the AMS100 to even more exacting standards than the premium fit and finish featured on the rest of the AMS range. Theres the same incredible attention to detail, solid military-grade aluminium casework and exclusive titanium finish, but here the heatsinks are uniquely crafted for optimum efficiency.
Measuring a mighty 48.3cm wide, 32.5cm high and 88cm deep, and weighing in at 100Kg, theres no denying the AMS100 is a monster amplifier. But if you want to hear the ultimate Class A amp, then this is it.

AMS50 - Design and Build
The AMS50 takes a fresh approach to power amplification. Its a pure Class A design that also takes inspiration from our flagship 1kW TITAN power amp.
Our 30+ years of amplifier experience leave us in no doubt that the ultimate musicality is offered by Class A power amps, with pure Class A designs providing the very peak performance. But pure Class A is only part of what makes the AMS50 so special; it also benefits from the years of research and development that went into its remarkable TITAN big brother.
Of crucial impact is its fully complementary, balanced, bridged circuit design. We believe the AMS50 to be the first ever 50 Watt pure Class A amplifier using this bridged configuration. The resulting advantages are significantly lower distortion and greater power-supply noise rejection.
This superior technical performance is clearly measurable. The AMS50s distortion is less than 0.005% wide band, and its signal-to-noise ratio is equally outstanding you simply wont hear this amp unless you want to!
Another contributing factor to the AMS50s excellence is its genuinely dual-mono design. In essence, its impressive casing houses two completely separate, mono amplifiers, each with their own power supply.
On the subject of the casing, theres no escaping the might of the AMS50, which measures 32.5cm high, 48.3cm wide and 46cm deep. With its custom-made heatsinks added into the equation, the AMS50 has a surface area of six square metres.
Some have said this makes the AMS50 surprisingly big, considering its 50 Watts per channel power rating, and that there are smaller Class A amps offering the same or even greater drive. Scientifically, however, the AMS50s generous dimensions are essential to ensure efficient heat dissipation for a Class A amplifier of this power rating. Therefore, any rival design claiming to offer similar or superior specification in a more compact casing design simply isnt a pure Class A amp and wont have the unique musicality that ideal configuration confers.
The AMS50 is the perfect partner for our Primo pre-amplifier. The pairing offers exceptional sound quality, combining the peerless tonality of a pure Class A tube system with incredibly fast, distortion-free solid-state performance. The resulting sound is so natural and three-dimensional, you feel as if you can reach out and touch the musicians.
Connectivity options on the rear of the AMS50 include both balanced and line-level inputs, plus two pairs of speaker terminals per channel makes biwiring easy.
As with the entire AMS range, the AMS50 has a timeless design. The three-part front panel, top and back are machined from solid, military-grade aluminum, and finished to meet our exacting specifications. The AMS50 is available with a Titanium G2 front panel, finished in either silver with silver badge, or black with silver badge.
As the Hi-Fi World review urges: Musical Fidelitys new AMS50 Class A power amplifier is required listening.

M8700m - Design and Build
When we launched our limited-edition Titan power amplifier in back in 2008, its massive power and unique design required very large dimensions and an equally hefty price tag.
Subsequent technical advances plus immense customer interest have inspired us to develop a more affordable, more conventional-looking successor of the Titan: the M8-700.
The M8-700 is a fully balanced monobloc power amplifier, which as its model number suggests packs 700 watts of power into its sleek black casing. That's 700 watts RMS into 8ohms; it approaches 1300 watts into 4ohms.
That's approaching the powerhouse performance of the 1Kw Titan itself, and indeed measurements show that in action there's only about 1.25dB between them.
Like its Titan forbear, the M8-700 is engineered for extremely low distortion typically 0.001% at 1kHz; below 0.005% at 20kHz. Even at the ridiculous level of 50Hz, distortion is a mere 0.02%, creeping up to around 0.06% at 100Hz. They may be unreasonable figures, but they prove a point: the M8-700 has significantly less distortion than rival designs.
Again

the Titan, the M8-700 is a low-noise power amplifier, with a minimal noise ratio of -120dB A-weighted.
The combination of the huge power reserves, low distortion and low noise contribute to the M8-700's extraordinary, effortless performance. It sounds almost undistinguishable from the Titan, displaying the same ability to deliver anything from massive dynamics to delicate detail with incredible speed and precision.
Whatever style of music you want to listen to, the M8-700 serves it up in a spacious soundstage rivalled only by the Titan - or a live musical performance.
Its power and balance means the M8-700 can drive just about any speaker you choose, backed by flexible connectivity options. Twin sets of speaker terminals make biwiring simple, and the M8-700's outputs can be 'daisy chained' to bi-amp suitable speakers. It is, of course, the perfect partner visually and sonically for our M8 pre-amp.
Reception for the new M8-700 has been highly enthusiastic. Many press reports have highlighted its more room and wallet-friendly form, while What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision dubbed it the "son of Titan".

M6PRX - Design and Build
The M6 PRX shares the same high-quality fit and finish that runs across the M6 range. Its top-grade metal casing makes a style statement while providing performance-boosting solidity.
Inside the custom-made chassis sits the same dual-mono design boasted by our very best power amplifiers. But what sets the M6 PRX apart is its unique Choke Regulated Power Supply (CRPS).
A choke, which offers high resistance to AC and very low resistance to DC, offers a hugely effective solution to power-supply noise. Chokes were commonly used on traditional tube amplifiers, but we were the first to use them with transistor designs. We also exclusively use a dual bifilar choke system for the ultimate in noise rejection.
The CRPS also provides outstanding mains noise filtration and rejection, ensuring low-noise power supply performance and immunity from main-borne interference. You won't even have to think about adding a mains conditioner to the M6 PRX.
The sonic effects of our CRPS are amazingly quiet background, precise imaging and fine detail recovery. Add the power, pace and dynamics delivered by the core 260-watts per channel design and it's easy to see why the M6 PRX is described as a truly world class amplifier, capable of effortlessly driving speakers.
Twin, switchable inputs and flexible output options allow the M6 PRX to be used in a wide range of systems. Its ideal pre-amplifier partner is the matching
M6 PRE. To quote the HiFi+ review of the two in tandem: "It's the perfect combination of motive force and grace".

M1PWR - Design and Build
It took a while to add the M1 PWR to our M1 series, because we would not settle for building a conventional power amplifier, even to our exacting standards. Instead, we used our technical expertise to deliver something truly special.
The M1 PWR delivers a comfortable 60 Watts-per-channels into 8 ohms, which almost doubles into 4ohms. In monobloc mode achieved by simply sliding a rear-panel switch it becomes a 100 Watt power amplifier, able to deliver 200 Watt transient peak capacity into 4ohms.
As with the rest of the M1 range, distortion rates are markedly low, at 0.05%. The M1 PWR's technical performance continues to impress with superb phase integrity, frequency response and signal-to-noise measurements.
Alongside its standard stereo input and twin speaker outputs, the M1 PWR also features a 12V trigger in/out and 'loop out' signal sockets - allowing amps to be daisy-chained and biamp your speakers.
At 22cm wide, 10cm tall and 30cm deep, the M1 PWR is exactly the same size as the M1 CLiC, for which it is a perfect partner. Along with the other same-width M1 range, they allow you to build a compact hi-fi system able to handle both traditional and modern music sources that surpasses the performance of far larger, pricier alternatives.
